ATLANTA – Porsha Bain-Anderson was purchasing a few Mega Millions tickets for the Nov. 19 drawing when her mother asked her to buy a few extra tickets for her. One of their tickets matched the first five winning numbers, and Ms. Bain-Anderson and her mom, Lulu Morris, plan to share the $175,000 prize.
Ms. Bain-Anderson, 31, watched the drawing and wrote down the results. A few minutes later, she checked the tickets and was shocked when one held the first five winning numbers.
“I called my mom and said, ‘Ma, I think we won!” shares Ms. Bain-Anderson. She asked her mother to check the Georgia Lottery’s Web site, and Ms. Morris confirmed the great news.
Ms. Bain-Anderson purchased the lucky Quik Pik ticket at Publix Super Market #0280, located at 1000 E. Piedmont Rd. in Marietta. The winning numbers for the Nov. 19 Mega Millions drawing were: 01-12-24-36-51 and the Gold Mega Ball was 38.
“This will certainly give me that cushion to plan for my retirement, but I’m happier for my daughter,” says Ms. Morris.
Ms. Bain-Anderson, an administrative assistant, plans to buy a new car, pay bills, and make a down payment on a home. She will also save a portion of her winnings to start a college fund for her six-year-old daughter, Natalia.
According to Ms. Bain-Anderson, she was pleased with her daughter’s experience in lottery-funded prekindergarten. “I think it’s a wonderful thing. It was really beneficial.”
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions will benefit education in the state of Georgia. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
