ATLANTA – A man who traveled through Georgia to vacation with friends and family is trumpeting a Georgia Lottery win from a free ticket. Edward Johnson of Archer, Fla., is one of two players each to win a $288,554 jackpot prize from matching all five winning numbers in the March 12 Fantasy 5 drawing.
He received his free Quik Pik from Dad’s Restaurant #0002, 5061 Whitworth Road in Lavonia, from matching two out of five numbers from a previous Fantasy 5 drawing.
Johnson, 58, said he drove back to Georgia from North Carolina to retrieve his free ticket because of the high Fantasy 5 jackpot.
He discovered that he’d won the following day while looking at the results on his computer.
“I looked, and I was stunned,” he said. “My wife asked, ‘What is it?’ I fingered for her to come over and look.”
Johnson and his wife, Tammy, weren’t the only ones excited.
“Our friend, who was with us, got dizzy and fainted,” the retired Navy man said. “It felt like we all were dreaming.”
The trio plan to travel overseas.
“It still feels as if I’m dreaming,” Johnson said. “I’m thankful.”
Winning numbers from the March 12 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 15-23-28-38-39. The second jackpot winning ticket was purchased in Atlanta.
