Madison Co. woman wins $20,000

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

ATLANTA – A Madison County woman has won $20,000 after taxes from the Georgia Lottery. Karen Knight of Carlton, 58, is the winner of the March 14 $3,000,000 Taxes Paid extra chance drawing.

Knight screamed after learning that she won.

“I saw my name on the Georgia Lottery website,” she said. “I ran and got my husband.”

Knight claimed her prize Tuesday.

The retiree plans to use some of her winnings to pay bills.

“It’s wonderful,” she said.

The Georgia Lottery instant game $3,000,000 Taxes Paid is loaded with cash prizes up to $3 million after taxes. Players can submit non-winning game tickets in the weekly extra chance drawings for a chance to win $20,000 after taxes. Drawings are held every Wednesday.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.1 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
