ATLANTA – One Tifton man is rattling with laughter and excitement since winning a Georgia Lottery prize. Dharmendra Patel, 47, won a top prize of $2,012 a week for a year playing 2012 Cash Jubilee, a prize totaling $104,624.
Patel said he purchased the ticket last year during the holidays and waited to collect his prize.
“I held onto this ticket awhile,” he shared. “I didn’t want to get too excited, and I want to spend it wisely.”
Patel purchased his lucky ticket at Southside CITGO, 127 Tifton Eldorado Road in Tifton, and scratched it at home.
“My wife kept telling me to buy it, and finally I bought it,” he exclaimed.
Patel and his wife, Beena, have two children.
“We don’t have plans, but we’ll probably put it toward the kids’ education,” he said.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.1 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
