ATLANTA – A Douglas truck driver is in for the long haul since winning an annual $52,000 lifetime prize from the Georgia Lottery. William Cook, 62, has won $1,000 a week for life from the Aug. 29 Win for Life drawing. Parker Food Mart, 829 W. 12th St. in Alma, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket. Winning numbers from the Aug. 29 drawing were: 5-14-30-33-34-37 and the Free Ball was 9. Cook discovered his win when he returned to the store for the results. "I was excited," he said. "I think the clerks were more excited than I was." Feeling good about his lottery win, Cook and his wife, Jonell, intend to use the prize toward their retirement. "We'll probably fix up our house," he added. "We'll be able to do some things we’ve never done." Win for Life is a multi-state game played in Georgia, Virginia and Kentucky. As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Win for Life will benefit education in the state of Georgia. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 940,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program. Play Responsibly – It's All About Fun!
