Buford man rejoices over $77,777 lottery win

Sunday, September 13, 2009

ATLANTA – A Buford man is thanking his lucky stars for winning the lottery just days before his birthday. Thomas Zimbelman, who will celebrate his 20th birthday Sept. 19, won a $77,777 prize playing the Georgia Lottery instant game Super Lucky 7's.

Zimbelman said he woke up, bought the ticket and "got lucky."

"I was at the store in my car when I scratched it," he said. "I checked it about 10 times to make sure."

Wee-Willy's Food Store, 1875 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. in Buford, sold the lucky ticket.

The lucky lottery winner is extremely happy. He has no immediate plans for his lottery win.

"This is a very good, early birthday present," Zimbelman exclaimed.

Super Lucky 7's is an instant game loaded with cash prizes of up to $777,777.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 940,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
