ATLANTA – A Columbus great-grandfather used one set of numbers to net two lottery wins, totaling a half-million dollars. Oscar Doward, 65, won a combined $500,000 from twice matching the first five winning numbers from the Sept. 4 Mega Millions drawing. Players who match the first five winning numbers from a Mega Millions drawing win a second prize of $250,000. Doward, who already had claimed one of his $250,000 prizes in September, claimed his second prize this week. "I claimed the first prize for my children right after it happened," the great-grandfather of one said. "This one is mine." Winning numbers from the Sept. 4 drawing were: 2-4-6-21-44 and the Mega Ball was 37. The winning tickets were purchased at Holly Hills Beverage Shop, 257 Oakley Drive in Columbus. Doward, a father of five, used a combination of birthdays as his lucky numbers. He watched the televised drawing as they were drawn. "I knew something good had to come," he said. A retired Army squad leader, Doward says he has no immediate plans for his winnings. "I'm just supporting the HOPE Scholarship," he declared. "That's all I'm doing, helping the children." Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 940,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program. Play Responsibly – It's All About Fun!
