ATLANTA – The Georgia Lottery Corp. today announced it has increased profits to education. Georgia Lottery profits for the first quarter of fiscal year 2010 totaled $215,693,000 – up from $214,939,000 for the first quarter of last fiscal year. "The fiscal year is off to a strong start, especially in these complicated economic times," said Georgia Lottery President and CEO Margaret DeFrancisco. "As it becomes more and more challenging for businesses to increase profits, we are committed to our mission of maximizing dollars for lottery-funded HOPE Scholarships and Pre-K." The Georgia Lottery's fiscal year 2010 first quarter spanned from July 1 to Sept. 30. "We will continue to develop and implement fun and innovative games and promotions as a source of entertainment for our players, knowing that the ultimate winners are Georgia's students and families," DeFrancisco said. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.2 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 940,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program. Play Responsibly – It's All About Fun!
