Retired school teacher measures $10,000 prize

Tuesday, December 8, 2009

ATLANTA – A retired school teacher measured his luck and won the lottery. P. Eugene Crandall of Suwanee won a $10,000 prize playing the Georgia Lottery instant game Extreme Green.

"I was just driving through town," he explained. "I was on my way back to Suwanee for Thanksgiving."

Crandall purchased his lucky ticket at Snappy Food #0005, 1100 Ga. Highway 57 in Townsend, and scratched it in the store.

"I couldn't believe it," said Crandall, 70.

He plans to build a home on a portion of his undeveloped land in McIntosh County.

Extreme Green is a $10 instant game loaded with cash prizes up to $1 million.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.2 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 940,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
