Friday, May 11, 2012

ATLANTA – It’s a banner week for one Tifton registered nurse since claiming a hefty prize from the Georgia Lottery. Willie Mapp, 41, matched all five winning numbers in the April 26 Fantasy 5 drawing, netting a $224,585 jackpot prize.

Mapp claimed his lucky lottery win Monday at the Georgia Lottery’s District Office in Tifton.

“I am going to pay off my mortgage and student loans,” Mapp shared.

Winning numbers from the April 26 drawing were: 12-22-26-31-33.

Love’s Travel Center #0325, 178 Southwell Blvd. in Tifton, sold the lucky ticket.

Mapp checked the Georgia Lottery’s website for the results of the drawing and saw that he’d won.

“I didn’t believe it at first,” he said. “But I knew immediately that I had to have someone check the ticket.”

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
