Pooler police officer targets $37,000 in lottery winnings

Wednesday, December 9, 2009

ATLANTA – A Pooler police officer has identified a winner. Tommy Steeley, a 12-year veteran on the force, won a $37,777 prize playing the Georgia Lottery instant game Red White & Blue 7's.

The father of four purchased his ticket at Food Mart, 990 Pine Barren Road in Pooler.

"I just happened to buy it," said Steeley, 41.

After scratching the winner in his car, Steeley said he was excited.

"I couldn't believe it," he exclaimed. "I feel good."

According to Steeley, he intends to buy holiday gifts and will save the remainder.

"The rest I'll keep for a rainy day," he shared.

Red White & Blue 7's is a $5 instant game loaded with cash prizes up to $377,777.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.2 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 940,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
