ATLANTA – The big jackpot game Powerball is coming to Georgia! Powerball tickets go on sale Jan. 31, and the first drawing will be held Feb. 3.
"We have implemented a monumental agreement in the lottery industry that will allow us to cross-sell Powerball and Mega Millions," explained Georgia Lottery Corp. President and CEO Margaret DeFrancisco. "Adding Powerball is an exciting opportunity to provide our players with more chances to win large jackpots and to yield new revenue for lottery-funded HOPE Scholarships and Pre-K."
Powerball tickets are $1 per play. Powerball drawings will be held on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Mega Millions drawings will continue to be held on Tuesdays and Fridays, providing Georgia Lottery players with four big jackpots per week.
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Powerball will benefit education in the state of Georgia.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
