ATLANTA – One man, who purchased his winning ticket in West Point, has scooped a big prize, thanks to the Georgia Lottery. Gordon Benbrook won a $150,000 top prize playing the instant game Giant Jumbo Bucks.
“I was there at the right time,” he said.
A resident of Lanett, Ala., Benbrook said he was at Circle K Store #6676, 1304 Third Ave. in West Point, when he purchased the ticket.
“I looked at the top of the ticket and saw the matching 20, and I kept seeing zeros,” said Benbrook, 59. “I said, ‘Whoa!’ I looked at it again and again.”
The shock of winning a large prize is exciting for the lucky winner.
As an expediter for a LaGrange carpet company, Benbrook anticipates repairing his mother’s car and fixing up his home. The remainder will be set aside for retirement.
“I’ve worked there almost 20 years,” he shared. “It makes 62 look a little better than 65. Retirement is more attainable.”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
