$50,000 prize fuels excitement for Calhoun freight driver

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

ATLANTA – A freight driver has won a sensational lottery prize. Kenneth Childers, a resident of Calhoun, won a $50,000 prize playing the Georgia Lottery instant game Jumbo Bucks Classic.

H and R Calhoun, 1090 Red Bud Road N.E. in Calhoun, sold the winning ticket. Childers, 61, was out getting gas at the time he purchased the ticket and scratched it at home.

“I’m very excited,” he said. “I shared it with my wife, and she’s excited, too.”

Childers and his wife, Sally, have no immediate plans.

“We’ll just put it in the bank,” he shared.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
