ATLANTA – A Talking Rock housekeeper has polished a plentiful Georgia Lottery prize. Kathy Berry, 48, won a $75,000 top prize playing the instant game Happy Mother’s Day.
While on her way to pick up her 9-year-old daughter from school, Berry stopped at Amoco West Market, 4631 Highway 53 West in Jasper, and purchased a ticket.
“I just happened to notice it,” she said. “The very first one was the winner. I was shocked.”
Berry, who owns a house cleaning service, is ecstatic about her windfall. She anticipates taking a family vacation with her husband, William, and their daughter.
“It’s just a shock,” she exclaimed.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
