ATLANTA – A grandmother of five has whipped up a winning lottery prize. Janis Lashley, 58, matched five winning numbers plus the Free Ball in the March 17 Win for Life drawing, winning $1,000 a week for a year.
Sunlit, 101 W. Eighth St. in West Point, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket. Winning numbers from the March 17 drawing were: 10-27-33-35-41-42 and the Free Ball was 37.
She discovered her win while on the Georgia Lottery’s Web site.
“I couldn’t believe it,” said Lashley, a resident of LaFayette, Ala. “My husband was like me: speechless.”
With her “unbelievable” windfall, the lucky lottery winner and her husband, William, plan to pay off bills.
Win for Life drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 11 p.m. Each Win for Life ticket costs $1.
Win for Life is a multi-state game played in Georgia, Virginia and Kentucky. As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Win for Life will benefit education in the state of Georgia.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
