ATLANTA – A woman vacationing with her husband in Dalton won a quarter-million dollar prize playing the lottery. Gretta Gross, a resident of Cedar Bluff, Va., won a $250,000 second prize from matching the first five winning numbers in the March 16 Mega Millions drawing.
Gross, 54, and her husband, Elden, purchased the lucky Quik Pik ticket at Walnut Ave. Gulf, 1522 W. Walnut Ave. in Dalton, while getting gas. Winning numbers from the March 16 Mega Millions drawing were: 3-22-48-52-56 and the Mega Ball was 13.
They checked their ticket on the Georgia Lottery’s Web site after returning to their hometown.
“We just drove back down [to Georgia],” Gross said. “We weren’t sure if we’d won $50,000 or $250,000.”
Feeling excited about their lottery win, Gross intends to “bank some and spend some.”
Married 37 years, the couple have one adult son.
“The machine just knew when to spit out a lucky one,” Gross exclaimed.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education.
