ATLANTA – A fuel tank operator in Duluth has won a $1 million-dollar prize. James Timms, 64, played the Georgia Lottery instant game Maximum Green and won a $1 million top prize.
Quarter Plus Dollar Store, 167 Sparta Highway S.E. in Crawfordville, sold the winning ticket. He scratched it later in the day.
“I was hoping to win a big prize,” he said. “But I couldn’t believe it when I saw it.”
Timms has worked as a terminal operator for 45 years and plans to use his winnings as a nest egg for himself and his wife, Emily. He also plans to pay off bills.
“Retirement looks closer than I had anticipated,” the father of two shared.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
