ATLANTA – A Smithville peanut bagger has gobbled up a Georgia Lottery prize. Courtney Wright won a $50,000 top prize playing the instant game Jumbo Bucks Classic.
The 23-year-old said he purchased the ticket after getting off from work at the peanut factory. He purchased the winner at Smithville Supermarket, 112 Stanton Drive N. in Smithville, and scratched it at his grandmother’s house.
“I just looked at it, and I showed it to my grandmother,” he said. “She went crazy, then I went crazy.”
The father of one young son said he intends to purchase a new car with his winnings.
“And I have family to look out for,” he added.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
