ATLANTA – An aspiring chef has a full plate since winning a leafy green Georgia Lottery prize. Gloria Walker of Valdosta won a $50,000 top prize playing the instant game Jumbo Bucks Classic.
She already has enrolled into a culinary arts school to become a pastry chef and will use her winnings toward relocating to a new city.
“I will have a safe and prosperous move,” she said.
The mother of five said she was feeling lucky when she purchased the ticket at Omni Food Mart #0004, 1509 E. Northside Drive in Valdosta, and scratched it inside of the store.
“I almost fainted,” she said. “People were screaming, the cashier was screaming, and I was in shock.”
Walker, 39, is excited about her lottery win.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
