ATLANTA – One Albany man is celebrating a plentiful Georgia Lottery prize just as the July 4 holiday approaches. William Posey, 21, won a $400,000 top prize playing the instant game $400,000 Grant.
The lucky winner claimed his prize Monday at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.
According to Posey, he purchased a ticket and scratched the middle line first, discovering he won.
“I was wide open,” the father of four recalled. “I could have jumped over a fence.”
Fast Lane Food Mart, located at 3000 Sylvester Road in Albany, sold the winning ticket.
Winning the prize will make for an even happier July 4 holiday celebration.
“I’m going to put this toward something good like (investments) for my kids,” Posey shared. “I want to buy a car, a truck and a new home.”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
