ATLANTA – A grandmother from Roswell has won a quarter-million dollar Georgia Lottery prize. Geraldine McDonald was out of town for her granddaughter's high school graduation when she discovered she won a $250,000 Mega Millions prize from matching the first five winning numbers in the May 28 drawing.
“I feel great. I'm excited,” she exclaimed.
McDonald, 71, said she feels lucky because she used her birthday and her husband Nathan's birthday as the winning combination.
Winning numbers from the May 28 Mega Millions drawing were: 3-11-20-29-39 and the Mega Ball was 26. RaceTrac #0213, located at 1907 Chattanooga Road in Dalton, sold the winning ticket.
“I couldn't believe it,” she said after calling the Georgia Lottery's Player Information Hot Line. “Birthdays are very lucky indeed.”
McDonald and her husband have three adult children and six grandchildren.
“I want to share with my children and my granddaughter who is going to college,” she shared. “This is such a treat, and I feel so thankful.”
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions will benefit education in the state of Georgia.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $11.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
