ATLANTA – Tears of joy were abound for a mother of three who won a large Georgia Lottery prize. Charmaine Bent of Grayson won a $200,000 Powerball prize from matching the first five winning numbers from the June 19 drawing.
“This has been a wonderful day for me,” Bent exclaimed after claiming her prize.
Winning numbers from the June 19 Powerball drawing were: 9-30-31-50-54 and the Powerball was 39. Rock Chapel Stop, 1801 Rock Chapel Road in Lithonia, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.
The lucky winner discovered her win while at a grocery store.
“I asked the clerk to check my ticket, and she said, ‘You won,’ ” she recalled. “She said it again, and tears came to my eyes. I was shaking the whole time.”
Bent, 35, anticipates paying off her home mortgage.
“I told my sister, and she started crying; I told my friend, and he was calm,” she said. “I was so excited, I needed to calm down.”
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Powerball will benefit education in the state of Georgia.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $11.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
