ATLANTA – Monica Kohn was taking her new car for a spin when she crossed into Georgia. While stopped for gas, Ms. Kohn purchased a Mega Millions ticket and won $175,000 by matching the first five winning numbers in the Jan. 18 drawing.
“I just purchased a car,” says Ms. Kohn, a resident of Orange Park, Fla. “I was just riding and drove to Georgia.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Nimi Enterprises, located at 1315 Ga. Hwy. 40 E. in Kingsland. The winning numbers for the Jan. 18 Mega Millions drawing were: 10-23-28-39-51 and the Gold Mega Ball was 5.
Ms. Kohn, a construction worker, was preparing to start her workday when she read the draw results in the newspaper. “I just jumped out of my truck and started screaming!”
The 41-year-old mother of three says, “I’m going to help my kids and help people who are in need.”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
