ATLANTA – A gas station in Tallapoosa has sold a winning Mega Millions ticket worth a quarter-of-a-million dollars. Exxon Food Mart, located at 1031 Ga. Highway 100 S. in Tallapoosa, sold a Mega Millions ticket from the July 3 drawing that matched the first five winning numbers.
The winners who shared the $250,000 prize are Sharon Thrash of Jemison, Ala., and her two sons, James Hays of Clanton, Ala.; and Martin Thrash of Jemison, Ala. They each claimed their share recently at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.
Winning numbers from the July 3 Mega Millions drawing were: 3-4-24-36-52 and the Mega Ball was 45.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
