ATLANTA – A hefty prize from the Georgia Lottery is in tow with a Milledgeville truck driver. Michael Adams, 44, has logged a $225,000 top prize playing Cash Payout.
The father of three was under the weather and had taken the day off when he won his prize.
“I usually don’t take off to lie out,” Adams said.
Jet Food Store #0029, 301 E. Hancock St. in Milledgeville, sold the winning ticket where Adams scratched it in his car.
“I kind of didn’t believe it at first,” he said. “I can’t explain it. I’m happy.”
Adams and his wife, Cindy, anticipate paying off bills with the windfall.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
