ATLANTA – A Bartow County woman has hauled a handsome Georgia Lottery prize from Cobb County. Karen Privette of Adairsville won a $1 million top prize playing the instant game 50X The Money.
“It was such a shock,” said Privette, 53. “I stopped to buy used tires for my husband’s van.”
Big Shanty Superette, 2778 S. Main St. N.W. in Kennesaw, sold the lucky ticket.
“I scratched it at the back of the store,” she said. “There were tears, and I felt joy and excitement.”
The lucky winner met her husband and mother after sharing with them the good news, and Privette claimed her prize at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Dalton.
Georgia Lottery representatives presented Privette with an oversized check Friday at the store where she purchased her ticket.
A senior warehouse clerk, Privette and her husband have two adult daughters.
“I want to pay bills, pay off my daughters’ cars, pay off mine, buy my husband a car and pay off my mom’s credit card,” she shared.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program.
