ATLANTA – One East Point woman will have a chance to pick the perfect spruce this holiday season since winning a quarter-million dollar Georgia Lottery prize. A $250,000 prize is the centerpiece of excitement for Maria Gomez, 47, who won her top prize from the new instant game Giant Jingle Bucks.
“First I want to buy a new home, and I want a big tree for Christmas,” Gomez exclaimed.
A mother of three, Gomez was on the way to a pharmacy with her husband, Juan, when they stopped at CITGO Food Mart, 3094 Washington Road in East Point, and purchased a ticket.
The couple scratched it in the car.
“I saw the matching No. 17, and I said, ‘Wait, Wait! Stop the car,’ ” Gomez recalled. “We went back home and totally forgot about what we were going to buy.”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education.
