ATLANTA – A gas stop in Bainbridge has marked a half-million dollar win for one lucky lady. Ollie Slater of Altoona, Fla., played the Georgia Lottery instant game Black Pearls and won a $500,000 top prize.
“It’s something we’ll never forget,” said Slater, referring to herself and her husband, Jim.
While visiting family in Bainbridge, Slater stopped for gas and a lottery ticket at Raceway, 1418 Tallahassee Highway in Bainbridge.
“My husband scratched it and said, ‘Look at this,’ ” she recalled. “I shouted, ‘Jim!’”
Married for 30 years, the couple have four children.
The lucky winner feels wonderful about winning her prize.
“My husband and I are truly appreciative,” said Slater, 53. “We can pick (property) – what we want. We’ve always loved that area.”
