Winning ticket worth $400K sold in Atlanta

Monday, December 10, 2012

ATLANTA – A winning Georgia Lottery ticket worth $400,000 was sold in Atlanta. Pharr Food & Gas, located at 345 Pharr Road N.E., sold a $400,000 top prize from the instant game 20X The Money.

The winner, Janice Harris of Atlanta, claimed her prize recently at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.

Harris, 68, celebrated her birthday earlier this month and is retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

“I’ll pay off some bills,” she shared. “More than likely I’ll work with a charity that helps children.”

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
