ATLANTA – One mom visiting her daughter in metro Atlanta over the holidays is squeezing in a plentiful prize from the Georgia Lottery for the ride home. Elsie Torres of Sunny Isles Beach, Fla., won a $1 million top prize playing the new instant game Millionaire Monopoly.
Torres, 52, claimed her prize Wednesday at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.
Publix Super Market #1078, located at 930 New Hope Road in Lawrenceville, sold the winning ticket.
The mother of three adult children scratched it at her daughter’s home.
“I thought I’d won $10,000, but I didn’t have on my glasses,” she said. “Then, I thought I’d won $100,000, and we all were emotional over that.”
Torres’s son confirmed the $1 million prize.
“It made for the best Christmas ever,” she said.
Excited over her windfall, Torres has no plans at the moment.
