ATLANTA – A Gwinnett County woman has ushered in the New Year with a win from the Georgia Lottery. Penelope Henritze of Lilburn won a $1 million top prize playing the instant game Georgia Millions.
With her windfall, Henritze anticipates moving countryside to start a farm.
“I’m going to get a horse, a donkey and chickens,” she explained. “This has been a dream to have a farm.”
Georgia Lottery representatives presented Henritze, 68, with an oversized check Thursday at Texaco Food Mart, 4578 Britt Road in Tucker, where she purchased the lucky ticket.
“I was on my way home, and I bought a lottery ticket,” she said.
Henritze has five adult children, 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren with a fifth great-grandchild due this spring.
“This really is a dream that has become possible,” she said. “It’s wonderful!”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
