Winning ticket worth $500K sold in Vidalia

ATLANTA – A winning ticket worth a half-million dollars was sold in Vidalia. Shyam Discount, located at 405 E. First St. in Vidalia, sold a winning ticket from the instant game Hidden Treasure with a $500,000 top prize.

The winner, Gitaben Patel of Vidalia, claimed her prize Tuesday at the Georgia Lottery’s District Office in Savannah.

In 2012, the store sold a $500,000 prize from the Jumbo Jumbo Bucks instant game.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
