ATLANTA – A chicken chain manager in Oconee County has bagged a big prize from the Georgia Lottery. Catherine Householder of Bogart won a $1 million top prize playing the instant game 50X The Money.
Bogart Pantry, located at 1311 Atlanta Highway in Bogart, sold the winning ticket.
“I scratched it in the store,” said Householder, 43. “I got in the car and called my husband.”
The lucky winner and her husband, Scott, are no strangers to winning the lottery. Householder, who works in human resources for Zaxby’s, won a $10,000 prize on an instant ticket in 2007.
“It helped me pay for my daughter’s education,” she shared.
With this windfall, Householder plans to invest for her retirement.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
