Gardener grows farm fund with $3M birthday win

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

ATLANTA – A Thomasville man is celebrating his birthday with a big prize from the Georgia Lottery. Wayne Sheets played the instant game $3,000,000 Taxes Paid and won a top prize of $3 million, taxes paid.

Sheets, an avid gardener, plans to purchase a farm with his winnings.

“I’ll grow organic vegetables and raise free range turkeys and chickens for my personal use,” he said. “I have easy dreams.”

Sheets, who celebrated his 57th birthday Tuesday, purchased his lucky ticket at Flash Foods #0280, located at 2667 E. Pinetree Blvd. in Thomasville. He scratched his ticket outside the store and returned to tell the store’s employees he had won.

“The people in the store, and I danced a little jig,” Sheets said.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
