Pulaski County woman wins glitzy gold $250K prize

Monday, March 11, 2013

ATLANTA – Winning a quarter-of-a-million dollar prize is a glitzy affair, and one Pulaski County woman is having a blast. Mary Scott, 46, of Hawkinsville played the new Georgia Lottery instant game Gold and won a $250,000 top prize.

Sunmart, 512 Progress Ave. in Hawkinsville, sold the winning ticket.

“I was shocked at first,” said Scott, who has two children, ages 19 and 11. “I was screaming.”

The winnings will help the stay-at-home mom and her family, she said.

“It’s shocking! It’s unbelievable,” Scott exclaimed.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
