ATLANTA – A Stone Mountain grandfather of 12 has won a stunning Fantasy 5 prize. Jose Rodriguez, 55, won the $209,355 jackpot prize from matching all five winning numbers in the June 21 drawing.

“It still feels like it’s a dream,” Rodriguez exclaimed.

Rodriguez said that after he purchased his Quik Pik ticket, he forgot about it. It was his wife, Sandra, who eventually held onto his winning ticket.

She checked the results on the Georgia Lottery’s website where she discovered the couple’s win.

“When I looked at it, I thought we’d won $200,” Rodriguez said. “She said, ‘Look at it again,’ and that’s when it hit me.”

Winning numbers from the June 21 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 14-24-30-33-37. Huggins Food Mart, 2206 Stone Mountain Lithonia Road in Lithonia, sold the winning ticket.

Rodriguez attended DeKalb Technical College where he received lottery-funded HOPE. He now works at a Styrofoam manufacturing company.

“It’s been a worthwhile program,” he shared.

In addition to his 12 grandchildren, he and his wife have four adult children.

“We’re looking at purchasing a house,” he shared. “Hopefully, we’ll help the kids out a bit.”

Georgia Lottery retailers selling winning Fantasy 5 jackpot tickets receive a retailer incentive bonus of $2,000. The retailer incentive bonus increases by $2,000 each time Fantasy 5 rolls. If more than one winning jackpot ticket is sold, the retailers selling the winning jackpot tickets will share the bonus. Huggins Food Mart will receive a $6,000 retailer incentive bonus.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $11.9 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.25 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
