ATLANTA – A Marietta retiree has dived into a quarter-million dollar Mega Millions prize. Martha Brown, who retired in April from the Cobb County Water System, matched the first five winning numbers from the July 27 drawing, winning a $250,000 prize.
The $250,000 Mega Millions win is the second time Brown has won a large prize from the Georgia Lottery. She won $150,000 playing Powerball in 1996.
“I split it with my children,” the mother of three said of her Powerball windfall.
Winning numbers from the July 27 drawing were: 2-7-10-16-29 and the Mega Ball was 8. Milford Food Mart, 901 Milford Church Road in Marietta, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.
Brown, 66, said she knew she was going to win.
“When I saw my winning numbers, I felt calm,” she said.
With seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Brown anticipates purchasing a new house.
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions will benefit education in the state of Georgia.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $11.9 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.2 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
