ATLANTA – One Moultrie man has struck a wave of good luck with two Georgia Lottery prizes in the same day. Donald Reeves first won a $500 prize followed by a $1 million prize while playing the new instant game Georgia Lottery’s 20th Anniversary Extravaganza.
Georgia Lottery representatives presented Reeves, 56, with an oversized check Wednesday at R & R Quick Stop, 1009 Fifth Ave. S.E. in Moultrie, where he purchased his lucky tickets.
“I just took a chance,” said Reeves, who celebrates a birthday this month. “I called over the store manager, and he checked. I was nervous, but it was a good nervous.”
Reeves, a floor technician at a health and rehabilitation center, has grown children with his wife, Liza.
Feeling good about his double windfall, the lucky winner has yet to make immediate plans.
“I haven’t had the time,” Reeves shared. “I had just come from work, and I stopped at the store when the clerk told me about this new ticket.”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
