Itchy hand nets $10,000 win for Savannah woman

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

ATLANTA – A win for one Savannah woman all started over an itchy hand. Deborah Cooper, 43, says that when her hand itches, she feels lucky. That feeling led to a $10,000 top prize win playing Junior Jumbo Bucks, a Georgia Lottery instant game.

“My right hand started itching,” she explained. “Sometimes I ignore it, but this time I didn’t.”

BP Store, located at 8001 Waters Ave. in Savannah, sold the lucky ticket.

“I am tickled to death,” Cooper exclaimed. “I’m going on vacation.”

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $11.9 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.25 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
