Duluth man corners $1M prize in Marietta

Friday, June 21, 2013

ATLANTA – Eric Millen of Duluth recently picked up beef jerky, an energy drink and an enormous prize from the Georgia Lottery. Millen, 44, won a $1 million top prize playing the instant game Monopoly Millionaire.

“I was on break from work when I stopped,” the lucky winner recalled. “I picked up a Slim Jim, a 5-hour ENERGY and a ticket. It was the only one I could see, and it was shiny.”

QuikTrip #0845, 600 S. Marietta Parkway in Marietta, sold the winning ticket. Millen waited until he got home before scratching the ticket.

“I stared at it and read it 10 times,” he said.

Ecstatic, Millen anticipates purchasing a new car with his winnings.

“I have a daughter; she’s 10, so I’ll save for her to attend college,” he shared.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
