ATLANTA – It was no April Fool’s joke. Thomas Jones of Harlem won $10,000 playing the Georgia Lottery instant game $100 Million Cash Spectacular. Although Mr. Jones purchased the winning ticket after April 1, his wife thought he was pulling an April Fool’s prank. Georgia Lottery retailer Racetrac #0409, located at 2161 Gordon Hwy. in Augusta, sold the lucky ticket. Mr. Jones, 49, works as a call scheduler for a construction company. According to Mr. Jones, he will use his winnings to pay bills and to build a storage unit with an air compressor in his backyard. As a father of two, Mr. Jones is excited and pleased that his oldest son attended school on a HOPE scholarship. To date, Georgia Lottery players have won more than $138 million playing $100 Million Cash Spectacular. Eleven $1 million top prizes have been claimed. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $7.2 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
