Dalton Man Picks “Wrong” Number and Wins $142,000 on Fantasy 5

Tuesday, May 10, 2005

ATLANTA – Stanley Mowles of Dalton purchased a Fantasy 5 ticket with every intention of playing the numbers from his birthday. Mr. Mowles was one number off, but he says it was the best mistake of his life. The Dalton resident matched all five numbers in the May 6 drawing and won $142,112.

According to Mr. Mowles, his birthday is March 8, but he selected “9” instead of “8.” “I didn’t notice until I got home,” he says.

The following morning Mr. Mowles called the Georgia Lottery Corporation’s Player Information Hotline and discovered that he won the game’s top prize. “I couldn’t believe it,” he shares. “I called my brother and said, ‘I think I hit it.”

Mr. Mowles’ brother checked the Georgia Lottery’s Web site and confirmed the good news. “He was as ecstatic as I was,” says Mr. Mowles.

Mr. Mowles, 68, works in the carpet industry at his brother’s company – EMM Carpet Tufting. He plans to invest his winnings and will share a portion with his son and five grandkids.

The winning numbers for the May 6 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 03-09-12-27-37.

The lucky ticket was purchased at Jax’s Liquor, located at 1300 Murray Ave. in Dalton. Georgia Lottery retailers selling winning Fantasy 5 tickets receive a retailer incentive bonus of $2,000. The retailer incentive bonus increases by $2,000 each time Fantasy 5 rolls. If more than one winning top prize ticket is sold, the retailers selling the top prize winning tickets will share the bonus. Jax’s Liquor will receive a retailer incentive bonus of $4,000.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $7.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
