Lawrenceville man piles up $1M in winnings

Friday, September 13, 2013

ATLANTA – A $1 million Georgia Lottery win has ignited loads of excitement for one electrical equipment salesman. Stephen Bright of Lawrenceville won a $1 million prize playing the Georgia Lottery 20th Anniversary Extravaganza instant game.

Bright, 49, claimed his prize Tuesday at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.

Quick Mart, 2360 Highway 20 in Lawrenceville, sold the winning ticket, and Bright scratched it while at home.

“I was by myself with my dog, Deets. I told him we just won $1 million, and he didn’t say anything back,” Bright quipped. “I had to go and tell somebody!”

Stunned, the lucky lottery winner shared the good news with the store’s clerk and his family.

“The guy asked, ‘You won big didn’t you?’ He knew something was going on,” he said. “Then, I went to my wife, and she didn’t believe me at first.”

Bright and his wife, Charissa, have two daughters, one of whom is a Zell Miller Scholar at the University of Georgia.

He and his family intend to invest the winnings.

“I’ve always felt like I was going to win,” Bright shared. “I’m lucky in life. I have my wife, children, family and a career. I never wanted to win big, but I wanted to win something.”

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education.
