ATLANTA – A retired truck driver who has barreled down highways for decades is carrying a new load. Hubert Coryell, 71, won a $200,000 top prize playing $200,000 Bonus Bingo, a Georgia Lottery instant game.
“I’ve won the big one,” Coryell exclaimed.
For 55 years, the great-grandfather of 15 has driven short- and long-haul routes. Now 10 years retired, Coryell is excited about his lottery win.
“I play mostly for the entertainment value,” he said. “I get a lot more enjoyment out of it.”
Stop N Go, 403 S. Jackson St. in Hawkinsville, sold the winning ticket. He scratched it in the store.
“You talk about a weird feeling,” Coryell said. “I got into a corner and called my great-grandson and told him I’d won. It was quite an emotional moment for us.”
In addition to his 15 great-grandchildren, Coryell has seven adult children and a host of grandchildren.
He intends to pay off bills and save the remainder of his winnings.
“I do plan on splurging just a tad,” Coryell shared. “I’m feeling total elation.”
