Mega Millions and Powerball surge with $154M, $400M jackpots

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

ATLANTA – Georgia’s big jackpot games are soaring with tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot at an estimated $154 million and Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot at an estimated $400 million.

Georgians are winning big as the jackpots roll. In Saturday’s Powerball drawing, one player won $1 million in Winder while three $10,000 winning tickets were purchased in Buena Vista, Euharlee and Sandy Springs.

Mega Millions has rolled 12 times since Jan. 7.

Mega Millions offers two jackpot payment options: the $154 million annuity prize paid out as one immediate payment followed by 29 annual graduated payments; or the cash option, which is approximately $84 million.

It only takes $1 to play Mega Millions for a chance to win big. Players can multiply non-jackpot prizes with the Megaplier option for an additional $1 per play.

Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot is at an estimated $400 million to a single annuity winner.

The Powerball jackpot began rolling Dec. 28 and has rolled 15 times.

Powerball offers two jackpot payment options: the $400 million annuity prize paid over 29 years in 30 graduated payments; or the cash option, which is approximately $227 million.

Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Players can add the Power Play feature for an additional $1 per play to increase non-jackpot prize winnings.

As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions and Powerball will benefit education in the state of Georgia.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $15 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
