ATLANTA – Thelma Lee Hordge of Macon is the first person to win a brand-new Ford Mustang convertible playing the Georgia Lottery instant game Mustang Money.
The Georgia Lottery is scheduled to award Ms. Hordge with her new car during a special presentation ceremony on Thursday, July 14 at 2 p.m. at Riverside Ford in Macon. Riverside Ford is located at 2089 Riverside Dr.
At first, Ms. Hordge thought that she was having problems scratching the ticket when she saw a “FORD” symbol in one of the boxes rather than a number. However, it was not long before she realized that she was the new owner of a Ford Mustang. “I just started screaming after that,” Ms. Hordge describes.
The winning ticket was purchased at Bateman & Wade. The store is located at 2283 Clayton St. in Macon.
The 46-year-old can now add cruising in her new convertible to her list of hobbies, along with reading and surfing the Internet. Ms. Hordge never imagined that she would win a car, but she is pleasantly surprised. “I’m thrilled, truly,” says Ms. Hordge. “It’s beyond belief.”
Ms. Hordge is the proud mother of a daughter who will be attending Macon State College this fall on a HOPE scholarship. Several of Ms. Hordge’s nine grandchildren have also attended Georgia Lottery-funded prekindergarten programs.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $7.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
