ATLANTA – A Georgia Lottery prize won in Gwinnett County is sparking excitement as one lucky medical assistant welcomes $1 million. Sherilyn Johnson, 46, of Stone Mountain matched the first five winning numbers from the Feb. 28 Mega Millions drawing, winning a $1 million prize.
Johnson used her own lucky combination, which has no significance, to win the prize.
She claimed her prize March 6 at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Duluth.
“I was checking new tickets when I ran across an old ticket,” she recalled. “I checked the numbers online. I was calm but couldn’t believe it.”
QuikTrip #0746, 3495 Satellite Blvd. in Duluth, sold the winning ticket.
Winning numbers from the Feb. 28 drawing were: 3-31-50-58-59 and the Mega Ball was 6.
“I feel great,” Johnson shared.
The lucky winner has no immediate plans for her windfall.
Tuesday’s Mega Millions jackpot is at an estimated $309 million to a single annuity winner.
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions will benefit education in the state of Georgia.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $15 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
