ATLANTA – An Ellijay shipping manager couldn’t contain his excitement upon winning a Georgia Lottery prize from a free ticket. James Griffies, 55, won $150,000 from matching all five winning numbers from the May 11 Fantasy 5 drawing.
Griffies won a free Fantasy 5 ticket from playing a previous drawing, describing his winning experience as “amazing.”
He received his lucky Quik Pik ticket at American Food Mart, 731 First Ave. in East Ellijay.
Winning numbers from the May 11 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 13-23-24-33-37.
While watching the televised drawing, Griffies pulled out his ticket as the first winning number was announced.
“I couldn’t believe it. It was like a dream,” he recalled. “I looked at it for about two minutes. My hands were shaking.”
The lucky winner is no stranger to winning the lottery. Griffies won $100,000 in 2005 playing an instant game.
With his most recent windfall, Griffies plans to get a new vehicle.
“I’ll spend some on the house, of course, and some on my daughter and granddaughter,” he shared. “It feels great. It really does.”
