ATLANTA – A lucky man has picked up a huge windfall from the Georgia Lottery while traveling through Georgia. Nakia Smith, 39, won a $150,000 top prize playing the instant game Giant Jumbo Bucks.
Smith claimed his prize at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Dalton.
A resident of McCalla, Ala., Smith was on his way to visit his sister in Tennessee over the Memorial Day weekend.
He purchased the winning ticket at Pilot Travel Center #0415, 319 Deer Head Cove Road in Rising Fawn, and scratched it while in the parking lot.
“I almost fainted,” he said. “It made for a very long weekend. I’m relieved that I don’t have to keep up with the ticket any longer.”
Self-employed in the automotive industry, Smith has two sons and plans to build a new house with his winnings.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $15.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education.
